EAUFON 2 is a domestic submarine cable system operating entirely within Canada. Spanning 675 km, it serves the province of Quebec, connecting six communities in the Nunavik region of northern Quebec. The cable provides submarine connectivity along an intra-provincial corridor in one of Canada's most remote Arctic coastal areas.
All six landing points are located in Quebec, Canada. The cable reaches the communities of Akulivik, Deception, Ivujivik, Kangiqsujuaq, Puvirnituq, and Salluit. These settlements are situated along the eastern Hudson Bay and Hudson Strait coastlines of Nunavik, a region where terrestrial infrastructure is largely absent and submarine cables represent a primary means of connectivity.
EAUFON 2 is owned by Tamaani Internet. Tamaani Internet is a telecommunications provider focused on delivering broadband services to communities in Nunavik, Quebec.
EAUFON 2 entered service in 2024, bringing submarine cable connectivity to its six landing communities in northern Quebec.
Within the Canadian submarine cable landscape, EAUFON 2 occupies a distinct niche as a short, regionally focused system dedicated to remote Arctic communities. Its regional peers include much longer systems such as EXA North and South at 12,200 km and EXA Express at 4,600 km, which serve broader Canadian and intercontinental connectivity needs. EAUFON 2 is closely related to EAUFON 1, a 1,175 km system that became ready for service in 2022, and EAUFON 3, a 900 km system planned for 2027, together forming a series of cables extending submarine connectivity across Nunavik's coastal communities. At 675 km, EAUFON 2 is shorter than both its named siblings, reflecting the specific geographic spacing of the communities it connects.
EAUFON 2 extends submarine cable access to six Nunavik communities that face significant geographic isolation. By linking Akulivik, Deception, Ivujivik, Kangiqsujuaq, Puvirnituq, and Salluit through a single 675 km system, the cable supports broadband service delivery to populations where overland or aerial infrastructure is not a practical alternative. Together with EAUFON 1 and the forthcoming EAUFON 3, it forms part of a coordinated effort by Tamaani Internet to bring submarine-based connectivity progressively across the Nunavik coastline.
